Seascapes and long exposures go hand in hand, and during this visit, I aimed to capture some ultra-long exposures to smooth out the water and create a minimalist look. Wave action was pretty minimal that day, so instead of focusing on capturing the motion of the waves, I opted for exposures lasting 2 minutes or more

Read MoreFollowing my recent adventure at Minard, where I captured some dramatic seascapes, I found myself drawn back to the rugged beauty of the Dingle Peninsula. This time, the plan was to make the most of a promising forecast. With great light expected and waves set to be particularly large, I decided to revisit a spot I’ve photographed before: the old, disused Dunquin Pier.
Read MoreMy latest photography adventure took me to Minard, a striking location on the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry, Ireland. The Irish coastline is known for its rugged beauty, and Minard truly exemplifies this. What makes this spot particularly special is the castle ruin that stands right at the water's edge.

Read MoreI team up with my good friend Diarmuid O'Donovan (DOD) for a photography outing at Two Mile Gate near Killaloe. Despite the overcast weather and misty rain, we embraced the conditions and explored the possibilities of monochrome photography. I share some tips on using natural framing, balancing compositions, and why it’s essential to experiment with different approaches, even when the weather isn’t ideal.

Read MoreUnlike previous photography trips, this time, the location was bustling with activity, which forced me to adapt my usual style of shooting. Normally, I’d have a bit more space and tranquillity to work with, but today was all about flexibility and patience.

Read MoreMy approach to this scene was methodical. I envisioned the final edit, considering how each shot would fit together to tell the story of Kilcrea Friary under the dance of fleeting light.

Read MoreI've explored many areas in Ireland over the years. However, one spot that I've done very little exploration in is County Mayo. This is a stunning part of the world, and I'm glad I took the opportunity to traverse it while I was recently on another trip with Bernard. Being from Cork, which is in the southern part of Ireland, means that I have to be hitting this area with a specific destination in mind. Given that I was here for a shoot with Bernard, we decided to take a loop trip around the area so I could see it for myself and experience all it has to offer.

Read MoreAfter a short drive along a winding and stunning road, we stopped, jumped out and took another short walk towards one hell of a picturesque scene. A solitary white-walled fisherman’s hut sitting right next to the water’s edge, with many fantastic shooting locations along the banks, promised to yield several shots for us both.

Read MoreWhale watching is quite popular here plus island hopping over to Sherkin and Cape Clear, which promise to take you back in time to a land not influenced by the manic speed the rest of the world goes through. This area is simply stunning overall, and sitting right on the cliffs that shelter the bay, sits a structure erected to serve as a beacon to the West and a symbol to all of just how great this place is.

Read MoreThe wind was still blowing from the night before, so I opted to go for an ultra-long exposure of 10 minutes. This would totally smooth out the water, but more importantly, it would allow the movement of the clouds to create streaks in my This works particularly well when the wind is either blowing directly towards the camera or away, as it creates bright and darker areas in the direction of the frame. Now, I didn’t calculate exactly what I was going to set my exposure, aperture, and ISO to; I just winged it, and when the image had finished cooking, I was happy with what I had on the back of the camera. I used my 10-stop filter to achieve this, and while I knew it would be a gamble, I was kind of sure I wouldn't blow my highlights, and then I would be able to recover the shadows in post later.
