This week’s Episode: The Beacon

The image I chose for this edit is an image I took at the end of the evening, we were into blue hour and the ambient light was casting a subtle glow on the scene. I did however make one big mistake on this shot, and I wanted to use that image as a lesson to hopefully help you avoid the same error. I had placed my polariser on my lens as I wanted to see if I could darken the water below me, I adjusted it to suit a vertical shot, however, when I placed the camera back in horizontal, I neglected to readjust the polariser again. This meant that I would have banding in the sky where the filter was doing its job, and not have it where I wanted to be, over to the right to darken the water and also control the intensity of the light from the sun which had just set. This edit while a challenge and flawed, I feel still works well and I went for a light and airy edit while processing the shot.
