Donegal & North Coast Photography Workshop
Join us for an unforgettable six-day photography adventure across Ireland’s most iconic and dramatic landscapes! This workshop, led by two internationally recognised photographers, will take you from the rugged cliffs of Donegal to the mystical Giant’s Causeway, blending photography, local culture, and plenty of Irish craic along the way.
What You’ll Experience
This workshop is designed to go beyond typical travel photography, focusing on the authentic beauty and atmosphere of Ireland’s landscapes and culture. Each location we visit has been carefully chosen to offer a unique photographic experience, from moody cliffs and dramatic coastlines to iconic Irish landmarks.
Our journey will include the Giant’s Causeway, where ancient basalt formations and the myths surrounding them create a truly unique backdrop. We’ll also capture the haunting atmosphere of the Dark Hedges, a natural avenue of trees that’s both mystical and cinematic. Plus, there will be more along the Antrim Coast.
In Donegal, expect to explore wild and remote coastal locations, including Fanad Lighthouse and Crohy Arch, where dramatic sea arches and cliffs await. These are just tasters of what both areas have to offer; there will be plenty more banger locations to fill your SD cards.
This workshop isn’t just about capturing the landscape; it’s about immersing yourself in Irish culture. Between photography sessions, we’ll bring you to some of Ireland’s best food spots, cosy coffee shops, and welcoming pubs, where you’ll experience Ireland’s famous hospitality and a bit of “craic”—Irish humour and conversation.
Meet Your Workshop Leaders
As an experienced landscape photographer, I’ve spent years capturing the diverse beauty of Ireland, from coastlines and cliffs to mountain ranges and valleys. With a focus on storytelling through landscape photography, I help participants capture images that reflect their own style and perspective. I offer guidance on composition, lighting, and creative approaches tailored to each participant’s skill level. My love for Ireland’s landscapes goes hand in hand with my passion for sharing the local lore and creating a fun, relaxed atmosphere where everyone can feel inspired and comfortable.
Bernard is an internationally recognised leader in landscape photography, known for his adventurous spirit and expertise in guiding photographers through Ireland’s most stunning landscapes. His approachable teaching style, combined with his deep knowledge of Irish scenery, ensures that participants get the most out of each location. Bernard’s technical insights and practical tips—particularly for capturing Ireland’s unpredictable weather and lighting—will help you take your photography to the next level, whatever your skill level.
Open to All Skill Levels
This workshop is perfect for photographers of all abilities, from beginners to advanced. We’ll tailor our guidance based on your individual experience and goals, ensuring you leave with images you’re proud of and new techniques to continue building your skills.
Gear Recommendations & Hiking Level
To make the most of this experience, we recommend bringing:
- Camera & Lenses: A wide-angle lens is essential for expansive landscapes, and a telephoto lens will help capture distant details.
- Tripod: Key for low-light photography, especially during sunrise and sunset sessions.
- Filters: Neutral density and polarising filters will add depth and contrast to your shots.
- Weather-Appropriate Clothing: Bring waterproof jackets, layers, and sturdy hiking boots—Irish weather can be unpredictable!
What’s the plan? Let’s break it down:
When do we kick things off?
We’ll meet on day one around noon at our cozy accommodation in Donegal. An Chuirt Hotel. Park up your car. Perfect timing to settle in and get ready for the adventure ahead!
When does it all wrap up?
The tour wraps up in Northern Ireland, also around noon on the final day.
How do we get around?
Getting to the meet-up spot in Donegal ( An Chuirt Hotel ) is up to you, but don’t worry—there’s plenty of parking for your car. From there, we’ve got you covered! You’ll ride in style in our comfy 9-seater mini-bus, so you can sit back and enjoy the journey to all the epic spots we’ll explore.
What happens at the finish?
Once we’ve finished up in Donegal, we’ll convoy together with your car to Northern Ireland. We will be staying at The Golf Links Hotel in Port Rush. That way, you’ll have your car with you at the end, ready for your trip home after an unforgettable adventure!
