The Progression Season: 2026–2027 Coastal Workshops

This is a structured series of immersive, 3-Day field experiences across Ireland's most dramatic coastlines. These workshops are designed not just as one-off trips, but as a deliberate progression built to create real, measurable growth in your photography.

The Core Philosophy: Real breakthroughs don’t happen in a single, isolated session. They come from repeated exposure to the elements, returning to unpredictable environments with a fresh perspective, and learning to make definitive choices based on the conditions right in front of you.

This season is built entirely around that principle:

  • Stand-Alone or Connected: Every workshop is a complete, high-value experience on its own. However, the real power comes when you connect them.

  • Diverse Conditions: By joining multiple sessions, you’ll work across different locations, shifting seasons, and varied weather systems.

  • A Continuous Journey: You can choose to dive in for a single workshop, or return throughout the year to build a structured, long-term progression in your craft.

Step away from rigid indoor instruction. Welcome to a deeper, more intentional way of seeing the landscape.

About Me

I am an Ireland-based landscape photographer dedicated to capturing the raw atmosphere, character, and shifting light of natural environments.

Alongside my own work, I run immersive, field-based workshops focused on a practical, intentional approach to image-making—teaching photographers how to read real-world conditions, refine compositions, and make definitive creative choices in the field.

My Work & Publications:

Books & Guides: Author of COAST (a photographic exploration of Ireland’s coastline), a series of location guidebooks for Irish photography, and the instructional series Essential Landscape Photography Skills.

Media & Contributions: My imagery has been featured across a range of landscape publications. I also document my field sessions, behind-the-scenes processes, and creative decision-making on my YouTube channel, and contribute regular articles on field craft and development to Fstoppers.

YOUR EXPERIENCE &

THE PHILOSOPHY

This is a curated, 3-day coastal field experience built entirely around the reality of landscape photography. With a strict limit of just 6 photographers, there are no rigid itineraries or controlled setups—the focus is entirely on reading the environment as it unfolds.

In the field, we work directly with:

Changing Tides: Reshaping our access and compositions in real time.

Shifting Light: Learning to adapt across different sessions and times of day.

Real Weather: Embracing the systems that dictate and influence every field decision.

Dynamic Adaptation: Adjusting our creative approach on the move as the landscape changes.

There is no classroom, no slideshows, and no indoor theory. Everything happens out in the wild, where intuition, timing, and composition are built through direct, practical experience.

WHY THIS FORMAT EXISTS

Real breakthroughs in photography don't come from one-off workshops—they happen through deliberate repetition in an environment where you must make definitive choices in the field.

True progress happens when you:

Return Regularly: Revisit environments rather than seeing a location just once.

Embrace Variation: Experience the same locations under entirely different light, weather, and seasonal shifts.

Build Autonomy: Develop your own decision-making process instead of just following step-by-step instruction.

Moving from basic repetition to true creative understanding is exactly what this workshop series is designed around, giving you the dedicated time and consistency needed to make that progression stick.

The Investment : Everything included in your 3-Day field experience

More Photographers, Lower Costs (IMPORTANT)

To make these experiences as accessible and high-value as possible, the final cost of the workshop adapts to the size of the group. As more photographers join the journey, the price automatically drops for everyone attending that date.

How it benefits you:

Lock in early: Securing your place early guarantees you won't miss out on the limited 6-spot capacity.

Save together: As the workshop fills up, the individual cost scales down, passing the savings directly back to you.

Shared value: Everyone in the group benefits equally from the final group dynamic and the reduced rate.

The Timeline: Two weeks before we head into the field, group numbers are locked, and your final, optimized pricing is confirmed via email. Your remaining balance is simply calculated and due at that point.

Ready to Elevate Your Photography?

To keep these experiences personal and fully immersive, I strictly limit each workshop to just 6 photographers. We keep the group small so we can dive deep into the field together, but it does mean that once those 6 places are taken, bookings close for that date.

Space is limited, so grab your spot below. If you have any questions that aren’t covered in the FAQs below , drop me a message before booking. I’m happy to chat!

FAQs

  • We will work directly with real, changing weather systems rather than avoiding them. Rain, mist, and dramatic skies often yield the most compelling, atmospheric landscape images. The workshop is designed to teach you how to adapt your compositions, manage your camera gear safely, and make real-time decisions based on whatever conditions the day hands us. I will never put you in danger.

  • To offer the best possible value, the final price scales down as more people join. You secure your place early to lock in your spot, and as the workshop fills up toward its 6-photographer limit, the cost reduces for everyone attending. Your final, optimised price is calculated and emailed to you 2 weeks before the workshop, which is when the remaining balance is due.

  • Not at all. Because groups are strictly limited to a maximum of 6 people, there is plenty of space for personalized, individual guidance. Whether you are looking to master fundamental camera settings and histograms in the field, or you are an experienced shooter wanting to refine advanced composition and visual style, the focus is adapted to your current skill level.

  • Absolutely. While each 3-day workshop stands completely on its own, the entire season is designed as a structured progression. Returning to different coastlines across the 2026–2027 season allows you to experience familiar concepts under entirely different seasonal conditions, helping you transition from simply following instructions to building a consistent, independent creative workflow.

  • You will need a camera body (DSLR or mirrorless) with manual exposure control, a sturdy tripod capable of handling coastal breezes, and a selection of lenses (a wide-angle and a telephoto zoom are highly recommended). Filters will be needed for long exposures. Since we will be working outdoors across a full day on Day 2, waterproof clothing, sturdy footwear, and a comfortable camera backpack are essential.

  • Your investment covers all dedicated, in-the-field tuition and location guiding across the 3 days. It does not include travel to the location or meals, allowing you the flexibility to choose the dining options that best fit your preferences and budget.

  • Your learning doesn’t stop when we leave the field. To support your continuous development, you will have access to ongoing mentorship via email. This allows you to share images you've worked on after the outing, ask follow-up questions about the techniques we covered, and get direct feedback as you continue to practice independently.

  • Since this is an immersive field experience, we will be outdoors moving around coastal environments, beaches, and headlands to find the best compositions. While we aren't doing extreme mountain treks, you should be comfortable walking on uneven terrain, wet sand, and rocky shorelines while carrying your own camera gear. We move at a considered pace to keep the focus on reading the landscape.

  • You don't need to be an elite hiker, but a basic level of physical fitness is essential. On Day 2, we spend a full day immersed in the elements, which means standing, walking, and carrying your own backpack loaded with gear across uneven terrain, slippery coastal rocks, and soft sand for several hours at a time. We move at a relaxed, considered pace to focus on reading the landscape, but you should be comfortable being outdoors in variable weather conditions.

  • To keep the outing completely pressure-free, Day 1 begins at 3:00 PM, giving you plenty of time to travel and settle in without rushing. The workshop concludes in the late morning on Day 3 after a focused final shoot and a reflection session, allowing you plenty of time for a relaxed journey home with an SD card full of banger shots.

  • No, transportation is not included, and participants are responsible for their own travel to and between the shoot locations. However, carpooling with your fellow photographers is highly recommended once we are all on-site. It’s not only a practical way to manage limited parking at coastal spots, but it’s also a fantastic way to get to know the group and share ideas between sessions.

  • Due to the strictly limited 6-spot capacity and our unique shared-pricing structure, cancellations can impact the rest of the group. Deposits are non-refundable but can be transferred to a future workshop date within the season if you give at least 6 weeks' notice. If you have to cancel closer to the date, we will do our best to fill your spot from the waiting list—if we can, we’ll happily refund your balance. I highly recommend taking out basic travel/activity insurance to protect your investment.

  • No, your gear is not covered under the workshop insurance. Because we work directly in real coastal environments with changing tides, shifting weather, and sea spray, you are fully responsible for your own equipment. I strongly recommend ensuring your camera gear is independently insured for accidental damage and outdoor field use before arriving.

  • Because our group size is strictly capped at 6 to guarantee an intimate, focused environment, every spot in the field is reserved for paying participants. If your partner wishes to join us at the locations and participate in the group dynamic, they will need to book a full place. Alternatively, they are more than welcome to travel with you to the region and explore the beautiful local area independently while we are out on our field sessions!
