I recently had the opportunity to take a trip up to a good buddy’s playground, Bernard Geragthy, as most of you may know is an accomplished landscape photographer and workshop leader, who lives in a stunning part of Ireland, That I hadn’t visited properly with my camera before, Mayo & Connemara.

For this week's adventure, I decided to head to where it all begins. The Old Head of Kinsale is an impressive headland that juts out from the bottom of Ireland into the Atlantic Ocean. However, it isn’t possible to walk along the stunning coastline or visit the impressive lighthouse at the very end, as years ago the land was sold to a private company, which set up the Old Head Golf Course, and no public access is permitted anymore

As I set up my gear, I decided this would be an excellent opportunity to create an ASMR video. The gentle lapping of the waves against the rocks, the rustle of the wind, and the serene environment provided the perfect backdrop for a relaxing experience.

As my day on the Dingle Peninsula came to a close, I had to fit one last shoot in and the location I chose was not only a stunning spot with incredible views of the Wild Atlantic, but was also an icon from the film industry’s past. Situated right on the edge of the headland lies a structure that was built with one specific reason, to act as a central area for the film to work it. Ryans’ Daughter is a movie that was made in 1970 and heavily featured the stunning scenery that the Dingle Peninsula offers.

set about giving myself another personal challenge to try and emulate a shot that master photographer Michael Shainblum had got on that day. His shot encapsulated what it means to photograph large waves and the conditions we had then were similar to today, so I set about trying to get my version.

My location of choice for this shoot is one that I hadn’t brought you to before, well at least not to the exact spot anyway, The last time I was here was 4 years ago when I took the hike over the cliffs to visit a stunning sea stack that sits proudly in the bay. An Searrach is an icon of the area, and when you have the promise of massive waves crashing, then it is almost a no-brainer to at least give it a go. So that’s exactly what I did.
