Photography Roadtrips come highly recommended

Packing your bag for a one day adventure is one thing, however packing your bag for a multiple day adventure is something totally different and comes with many new considerations. 2022 was my year of road trips, making three in total with my wingman Diarmuid O Donovan, and in this Blog I will share some of my highlights, insights and learnings that each one gave me, starting with the incredible Dingle Peninsula on the Western edge of Ireland.

Dingle, Kerry, Ireland

The best place in Ireland for photography, craic and people.

I have gone on many one day adventures in my day and while are great fun in themselves, there is something special about heading away for a few days in total, it is like a mini holiday but without the kids and time pressures to do the touristy things, instead you can immerse yourself in the landscape and moreover let the light and conditions more or less dictate where the adventure brings you. Add in to the m ix travelling in a campervan and you have the perfect combination. Being able to rock up to a sunrise location after sunset, park up and be on location ready to shoot and not have to rush in the darkness to reach said location has lots of advantages.

My first roadtrip was to one of the best places in Ireland for photography, the Dingle Peninsula in Kerry. Myself and Diarmuid arrived on a Friday evening and were back on the road again early nSunday afternoon, however in this short time we managed to get some great photos, shares some great locations, ate like kings, had drinks and fun with other local photographers and all while there was zero clouds in the sky. I have a firm belief that bad conditions do not exist in landscape photography and despite the blue bird days we were rewarded with glorious light casting its glow on scenery that many would never dream was possible. Being from Ireland I had taken for granted the many stunning areas that lie on such a small peninsula on the west coast of Ireland, however now that I see the world from a photographers point of view I can tell you that it is simply stunning in all light & conditions and will never disappoint.

Dunmore Head, Clogher Head, Dunquin amongst other places make an appearance on this series of adventures, the stunning islands that lie of the coast, the Blaskets, An Tiraght and of course the sleeping Giant all played staring roles in my shots. and the best part of all besides being able to stay on location was that I was able to record the entire thing for my Youtube Channel, You can watch the series by clicking here
